A food intolerance test

The food intolerance test is recommended for people who wish to lose weight, strengthen their immune system, improve their skin, strengthen their hair and nails; for those who are planning to have a child or are breastfeeding; and for people suffering from obesity or other chronic diseases. The food intolerance test helps identify which foods a person should avoid or replace in their diet.

In Tartu, the food intolerance test is provided through Bioclinic and Loodus BioSpa, followed by an individual consultation with Dr Natalia Trofimova. Blood samples are taken at Synlab Eesti OÜ blood collection points.

In many cases, food intolerance may lead to chronic symptoms that can be difficult to treat using conventional methods. A food intolerance test can identify which foods may trigger a negative immune response and may therefore adversely affect the body and contribute to various problems, such as:

  • difficulty losing weight despite dieting;
  • abdominal pain, bloating;
  • itching, skin rashes;
  • skin problems — acne, allergic reactions;
  • constipation, diarrhoea;
  • joint pain, swelling;
  • frequent colds, weakened immunity;
  • fatigue, poor sleep.

What problems can a food intolerance test help prevent?

A food intolerance test helps identify which foods a person should avoid or replace in their diet. Changing eating habits based on the results of a food intolerance test has helped many people with skin problems, digestive problems, restlessness, insomnia and joint pain.

Following dietary recommendations based on food intolerance test results has improved sleep quality and overall health in many people. In Tartu, the food intolerance test is provided through Bioclinic and Loodus BioSpa, followed by a consultation with Dr Natalia Trofimova.

When is a food intolerance test necessary?

Just as every person’s fingerprints are unique, each person has an individual nutritional style and diet that may suit them best. Based on this individuality, a food intolerance panel has been developed that tests 176 different foods and is based on IgG antibodies.

The panel determines the body’s response to specific foods and helps identify a diet that is suitable for the individual.

In many cases, food intolerance may lead to chronic symptoms that can be difficult to treat using conventional methods. To help identify possible food intolerance, the FIT (Food Intolerance Test) measures different IgG antibody levels in the blood and provides information about which foods a patient should avoid or, for example, replace.

The IgG food intolerance test is recommended for people who wish to lose weight, strengthen their immune system, improve their skin, strengthen their hair and nails; for those who are planning to have a child or are breastfeeding; and for people suffering from obesity or other chronic diseases.

Why does food intolerance occur and why may a food intolerance test be needed?

There are many different reasons why a person may suffer from food intolerance. Some of these causes have not yet been fully studied or remain under discussion.

However, some factors have already been identified:

  • genetic predisposition to food intolerance;
  • in children, food intolerance may be associated with formula feeding or early weaning from breastfeeding;
  • unhealthy dietary habits that negatively affect the gastrointestinal tract;
  • functional disorders of the intestines;
  • industrial processing of food, numerous food additives (colourings, preservatives, flavourings and other additives);
  • previously experienced bacterial, viral or fungal diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • unfavourable environmental conditions;
  • an unbalanced diet.

How can you recognise the need for a food intolerance test?

Clinically, food intolerance may manifest as gastrointestinal discomfort and bloating. Abdominal pain often occurs after eating a food that the body does not tolerate well. A characteristic feature is the recurrence of symptoms after consuming a particular food or combination of foods.

In many cases, this may be accompanied by reduced work capacity and a deterioration in quality of life, as well as chronic or frequently recurring acute infections. Excess weight may also occur, although it is not necessarily a symptom, and has been described as potentially being associated with the accumulation of immune complexes in fatty tissue and associated swelling.

Many people do not tolerate strawberries, nuts, citrus fruits, mushrooms, seafood, soy, eggs, coffee, corn and many other foods. According to the information provided with the test, one in four people does not tolerate milk, while one in 25 does not tolerate rye, wheat, barley and products made from them.
